I decided to head to Bainbridge in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales for my walk this weekend. The route that I followed took in the moorland around Raydale, the valley to the south of Bainbridge which contains the lake of Semer Water. It's familiar territory as I've done several walks that have visited the area in recent years, although I've never done this exact route before, the closest being in August 2020 when I took in Addlebrough as well. The forecast was for a fine autumn day, and that's certainly what I got. Setting off from Bainbridge in the morning with fair weather clouds and sunny spells, the weather only improved into the afternoon as there was more in the way of sunshine, which felt warm despite the strong wind up on the moors.
After parking my car in Bainbridge I walked along the A684 across the bridge over the River Bain, and then uphill to Blean Lane. I took Blean Lane and walked up it, and then up Carpley Green Road to Carpley Green Farm. After making my way through Carpley Green Farm I walked up the track of Busk Lane onto the moorland of Stake Allotments (with a stop for lunch on the way), and to the junction of the tracks of Gilbert Lane and High Lane. Here I turned right and walked down the track of High Lane until I reached the track of Bob Lane, which I took down into the hamlet of Stalling Busk. From Stalling Busk I walked down and along the track of Busk Lane to the hamlet of Marsett, and then north along Marsett Lane until I reached a footpath on the left. I took this footpath up the hillside to a right hand bend on Crag Side Road, and then the bridleway from the bend up onto the hillside of Crag. After taking in the view from there I followed the bridleway west towards Common Allotments until I reached a junction of footpaths and bridleways, where I turned right and took the footpath north to Cam High Road. I then walked down the track and road of Cam High Road all the way back down to Bainbridge.
