Route description: Calgary Bay-Rubha nan Oirean-Caliach Point-Cailaich Farm-B8073-Calgary Bay
I've made my way to Calgary Bay for my third walk on Mull. My route was taken from one of my guidebooks and takes in the west coast of Mornish, visits the trig point at Caliach Point on the northwestern tip of Mull, then returns to Calgary Bay by using the road through Mornish. I didn't have any problems following it except for when it came to getting to Caliach Point, but once I located the wall that's mentioned in the guidebook it was easy enough. The forecast was for a cloudy and windy day with a bit of sunshine and the odd drizzly shower. I enjoyed the best of it when I was walking along the coast, as I had some sunny spells for taking in the great scenery.
From the car park at the picnic site next to the B8073 at Calgary Bay I set off by taking the track west along the north shore of Calgary Bay until it reached the pier that's marked on the map. I then followed the track uphill to a gate, where it was left for a path west below a fence. Further on the path crosses this fence via a stile and continues west below Cnoc Udmail to Rubha nan Oirean. I then made my way north along the coast, there's a pretty clear path to follow most of the time. As I approached Cailaich Farm I made my way across to a substantial wall that runs southwest to northeast not that far to the west of the farm. I followed it to its southwestern end, and then crossed the fence there before making my way north to the trig point above Caliach Point. After a break for lunch and to take in the view I made my way south above the coast to a track that reaches the end of the road at Cailaich Farm. A walk east and then south along this road brought me to the B8073, where I turned right and walked along it back to the car park at the picnic site.

Route map
I set off by following the track out to the north shore of Calgary Bay
The white sands of the beach at Calgary Bay to my left
Following the track west
Looking back to the beach
The track reaches a pier, and this is as far as it goes along the coast
Above me there's a wall that's been built onto the end of a dyke
Having reached its top, looking back to the beach at Calgary Bay
Following the path west
and looking across Calgary Bay to Treshnish Point
The path meets a stile across a fence with a sign for "Cailaich", which is at the end of the road on the northwestern corner of Mornish
Looking back to the eastern end of Calgary Bay
Reaching the headland of Rubha nan Oirean, with views across Calgary Bay to Treshnish Point and the Treshnish Isles in the distance..
From Rubha nan Oirean I make my way north along the coast..
I can make out the island of Coll on the horizon
Great views as I make my way north along the west coast of Mornish.......
Looking back south and it looks like there's a change in the weather on its way
The white cottage in the distance is Cailaich Farm, which means I'm near Caliach Point
My guidebook mentions having to cross a substantial wall to reach Caliach Point. The one up ahead looks pretty substantial to me.
Looking northeast along the wall, with Cailaich Farm on the right
I follow the wall southwest to go round its end above the coast
On the other side of the wall and heading north towards Caliach Point
Looking south to Treshnish Point and the Treshnish Isles
Approaching Caliach Point
A view along the north coast of Mornish to my right
At the trig point above Caliach Point
The islands of Rum, Muck, and Eigg in the distance to the north
The island of Coll on the horizon
Looking south to Treshnish and the Treshnish Isles
After a break for lunch, and to let that change in the weather pass through, which was just a drizzly shower, I make my down to the cliffs above Caliach Point to take in the view. Looking west to the island of Coll..
..and south to Treshnish and the Treshnish Isles
The trig point is on top of that knoll, along with bench if you want to sit down to take in the view
Back at the trig point, and looking east along the north coast of Mornish to Quinish
A last look west to Coll
Leaving the trig point behind..
..I make my way south above the coast to Cailaich Farm
Looking back to Cailaich Farm..
..as I walk east along the road through Mornish
A last look back towards Caliach Point before it disappears from view
Drizzle in the wind produces a rainbow
Following the road east, and down past Sunipol..
As I walk east along the road I have great views across to Ardnamurchan on the mainland to my left..
Past the cottages at Cillchriosd
A last chance to take in the view across to Ardnamurchan
Walking south along the road to the junction with the B8073..
I finish with a walk along the B8073 back to the car park
Before I leave I have to go down to the beach and take in the views across Calgary Bay........
