11th June 2015 - Sunset on Holcombe Moor

Walk Details

Distance walked: 4.5 miles

Total ascent: 705 ft

OS map used: 287 - West Pennine Moors

Time taken: 2 hrs

Route description: Layby on B6214 at Buckden Wood-Buckden Wood-Peel Tower-Harcles Hill-Bull Hill-Buckden Wood-Layby on B6214 at Buckden Wood

It's been ten months since I last did an evening walk on Holcombe Moor. About time that I was up here again then. This evening I'd thought that the weather over the weekend would mean that I wouldn't be walking anywhere so getting out for a couple of hours for a tramp over my local moor is a good way of getting my hill-walking fix.

After parking in the lay-by I made my way up through Buckden Wood and onto the bridleway which I followed to Peel Tower. I then made my way across Harcles Hill and Holcombe Moor to the summit of Bull Hill. A quick descent was then done.

As I make my way round the north slope of Bull Hill, Pendle Hill and Haslingden below Cribden Hill comes into view. I think the sheep are somewhat surprised to see someone up here at this time of day.

Definitely the best view from up here is looking north to Pendle Hill. I could just about make out Ingleborough as well.
