Time taken: 2 hrs
Route description: Layby on B6214 at Buckden Wood-Buckden Wood-Peel Tower-Harcles Hill-Bull Hill-Buckden Wood-Layby on B6214 at Buckden Wood
It's been ten months since I last did an evening walk on Holcombe Moor. About time that I was up here again then. This evening I'd thought that the weather over the weekend would mean that I wouldn't be walking anywhere so getting out for a couple of hours for a tramp over my local moor is a good way of getting my hill-walking fix.
After parking in the lay-by I made my way up through Buckden Wood and onto the bridleway which I followed to Peel Tower. I then made my way across Harcles Hill and Holcombe Moor to the summit of Bull Hill. A quick descent was then done.

On the bridleway to Peel Tower
Views across Rossendale to my left
It's a little hazy but I can make out the Peak District hills in the distance beyond Manchester
A sea of cotton grass
Leaving Peel Tower behind
Looking across Rossendale as I head for Harcles Hill
Winter Hill
Rossendale from Harcles Hill
As I make my way round the north slope of Bull Hill, Pendle Hill and Haslingden below Cribden Hill comes into view. I think the sheep are somewhat surprised to see someone up here at this time of day.
Long shadows on Bull Hill
Looking northeast across the South Pennine moors to Boulsworth Hill
Definitely the best view from up here is looking north to Pendle Hill. I could just about make out Ingleborough as well.
It's 2130 and the sun sets to the northwest over the West Pennine Moors
