Another walk in the snow, and like yesterday I'm setting off from home. The weather is forecast to deteriorate during the afternoon as a change to milder conditions moves in and starting from home means I can make the most of the best weather during the morning and early afternoon. Yesterday I walked up Weets Hill, so today I decided to go in the opposite direction and do a route across the moors to the east of Foulridge and around the top of Lothersdale. Familiar territory from the many walks done from home during the COVID lockdowns. Like yesterday the depth of snow on the moors varied considerably, and I encountered some really deep drifts with the Colne to Carleton-in-Craven road being completely blocked at Black Lane Ends. I enjoyed some blue skies and sunshine through the morning and into the early afternoon, before the cloud quickly thickened so that it had started to snow by the time I was walking from Kelbrook back to Foulridge.
From where I live in Foulridge I made my way to the bottom of Noyna Road and took the footpath up onto Noyna Hill, across its top and down to Noyna End Farm on Cob Lane. Crossing the road I took the footpath opposite and followed it down to a footbridge over Moss Houses Beck, and then up onto Great Edge, before taking a footpath to Harwes Farm. From Harwes Farm I then followed the footpath east up onto Piked Edge and down to Black Lane Ends before crossing Skipton Old Road and walking east along Warley Wise Lane to reach the junction with Tom Lane and Stone Head Lane, where I stopped for lunch on a conveniently placed bench. After this much needed break I walked up Tom Lane, turned left and walked along Hawshaw Road, then right and down Centre Road to Marl Hill Lane. A brief walk up Marl Hill Lane brought me to a footpath up a track to Bent Hall, then I took a footpath up the hillside to Banks Ghyll Kennels and Cattery, and a walk up its access track took me to West Road, which I crossed to reach Dodgson Lane. I soon reached a bridleway on the left, which I took and followed down Stanridge Clough Lane to Birch Hall Lane in Earby. After a brief walk down Birch Hall Lane I reached the trail of the Pendle Way, which I followed south until I reached Heads Lane for a walk down into Kelbrook. I left Kelbrook by Waterloo Road and Old Stone Trough Lane, and walked south along this lane through Old Stone Trough, and then south along Skipton Old Road back to Foulridge and home.

Route map
Heading up onto Noyna Hill from Foulridge
Views across to Pendle Hill..
A bleak scene as I cross access land on Noyna Hill
Looking south to Boulsworth Hill and the Forest of Trawden
Pendle Hill in the distance. It looks like brighter skies are on the way.
One of many deep drifts I'll encounter today
Kelbrook Moor from Noyna Hill
Boulsworth Hill and the Forest of Trawden as I head down to Noyna End Farm
Snow covered fields below Great Edge
The first ladder stile to cross on Great Edge. It wasn't easy to reach.
Before I cross it I'll take in the fantastic view to the west to Pendle Hill, Wheathead Height, Burn Moor and White Moor
Across it, and the top of Great Edge is to the east
Pendle Hill, Wheathead Height, Burn Moor and White Moor to the west from the top of Great Edge
Following the path from Great Edge to Harwes Farm
Before I cross the stile in this wall I take the opportunity to illustrate how the wind left a deep drift in the lee of the wall, and then bare ground just a bit further away
Making my way past Harwes Farm
Heading for Piked Edge from Harwes Farm
Increasingly deep drifts are encountered..
Boulsworth Hill to the south
Pendle Hill in the distance from Piked Edge
The moorland around Airedale in the distance as I head for Black Lane Ends
Boulsworth Hill from Piked Edge
The top of the road from Colne to Carleton-in-Craven at Black Lane Ends. I usually go to work this way, and it would be the best part of a week before milder weather got rid of most of this.
Walking east along Warley Wise Lane..
A couple of photos from where I stopped for lunch, on a bench at the junction of Warley Wise Lane and Tom Lane. Looking west along Warley Wise Lane towards Knarrs Hill.
and south along Stone Head Lane to Ickornshaw Moor in the distance
Lunch had, I walk up Tom Lane
Boulsworth Hill and Knarrs Hill from Tom Lane
At the top of Tom Lane I turned left and walked west along Hawshaw Road
Looking back along Hawshaw Road to Hawshaw Hill
A right turn takes me onto Centre Road. It could be a bit of struggle getting through here.
The moors around the top of Lothersdale to my right
Making my way up Marl Hill Lane to Bent Hall
Looking down Lothersdale
From Bent Hall I've made my way up to Banks Ghyll. Looking back to Bent Hall, and across to Hawshaw Hill and Centre Road.
and across Lothersdale to Hawshaw Hill from the drive down to Banks Ghyll
Ingleborough, the moors above Malhamdale, and Great Whernside from Dodgson Lane. I'm not going that way though, I'll take the bridleway of Stanridge Clough Lane on my left.
Entering the enclosed bridleway of Stanridge Clough Lane. It looks like I've finally lost the sunshine for the day.
Looking north from the ruins of Higher Verjuice Bank to the moorland of Rectory Allotment, with the moorland around Malhamdale and Wharfedale in the distance. The loss of snow from south facing slopes is quite noticeable .
Following Stanridge Clough Lane down towards Earby. The depth of snow was quite considerable in places, and had me climbing out of the enclosed track..
Looking across to Weets Hill
Heading down Stanridge Clough Lane..
and onto Birch Hall Lane
While walking through Earby I make a short detour to visit the waterfall on Wentcliff Brook
Still plenty of snow on the northern slopes of Bleara Moor
Looking across the roofs of Earby to the Forest of Bowland and Ingleborough in the distance..
Following the Pendle Way south towards Kelbrook

It's a bleak scene as I arrive back in Foulridge. Dull and overcast, with light snow falling.
