A weekend of indifferent weather saw me heading across to Calderdale for an afternoon walk from Hardcastle Crags. It was back in January when I was last in this area. A visit to Lumb Hole Waterfall did give me the chance to take more photos with a tripod and filter, and with the weather improving through the afternoon to sunny spells with a brisk chilly breeze I got to enjoy great views and colours up on the moors.
From the NT car park at Hardcastle Crags I followed the track up past the estate office at Hollin Hall and past the one that goes uphill to the left to take a footpath on the right down to Crimsworth Dean Beck. I didn't cross the footbridge but took the footpath back uphill and then the one that makes its way north across the hillside to reach the bridleway down to Lumb Bridge and Lumb Hole Waterfall. After taking a break for lunch and photos I crossed Lumb Bridge and followed the bridleway up to Old Road. I then walked south along Old Road for a short distance until I reached a bridleway on the left which took me up to and across the A6033, then across the moor to the trig point on High Brown Knoll. I then made my way south along Deer Stones Edge before using bridleways to head down to the hamlet of Pecket Well and the A6033. After walking down the road past the Robin Hood Inn I took a bridleway on the right down into and then up out of Pecket Well Clough, then a footpath on the left across the hillside to Lower Crimsworth. A footpath down the hillside from here took me to the war memorial and the bridleway back down to the car park.
