14th July 2009 - The Whinlatter fells

Walk Details

Distance walked: 9.1 miles

Total ascent: 2854 ft

OS map used: OL4 - The English Lakes, North-western area

Time taken: 6.5 hrs

Route description: Darling How car park-Aiken Beck-Brown How-Whinlatter Top-Whinlatter Forest-Barf-Lord's Seat-Broom Fell-Widow Hause-Graystones-Darling How car park

The Wainwright bagged today was Whinlatter but I also included all the other tops in the area. I started the walk from the Darling How car park on the Whinlatter road from where I took the forest track by Aiken Beck. I left the track and took an off path route upto Brown How, the western top of Whinlatter. I then visited Whinlatter Top before heading down into the forest and along forest tracks to eventually arrive at the summit of Barf. From Barf I then visited Lord's Seat, Broom Fell and Graystones before making the steep descent down into Darling How Plantation and back to the car park.
