Total ascent: 2565 ft

OS map used: OL6 - The English Lakes, South-western area

Route description: Eskdale Green-Low Holme-Miterdale Forest-Irton Fell-Whin Rigg-Illgill Head-Maiden Castle-Bulatt Bridge-Burnmoor Lodge-Miterdale-Low Place-Low Holme-Eskdale Green

Another fine day for this first walk over Whin Rigg and Illgill Head and down the secretive valley of Miterdale.

From Eskdale Green I took the green lane across into Miterdale before walking through Miterdale Forest to gain the ridge to Whin Rigg. After Whin Rigg I followed the tops of The Screes across to Illgill Head. My route back was down to the path between Wasdale and Eskdale, Burnmoor Tarn and then down the valley of Miterdale.
