I was surprised to find the sun shining first thing this morning, it was forecast to be cloudy with the best of any sunshine to be to the west because of the easterly breeze. With this is mind I decided to head for the coast to do a walk in the Arnside & Silverdale AONB. After my first walk in the area last November I'd been planning on visiting again soon to get to know the area better. This route took in Warton Crag along with a bit of the coast at Silverdale, though with hindsight there was too much road walking involved for my liking. I'll have to make sure there's less when I plan my next visit. In the sunny weather it felt like spring had arrived early but the haziness restricted any long distance views.
From the NT car park at Eaves Wood I walked out to the road and turned left. I followed the road round to the right to the narrow lane at Red Bridge Farm. I then took the footpath that crosses the railway line and Silverdale golf course to reach Leighton Moss. After taking the causeway through Leighton Moss I kept on the bridleway past Grisedale to Leighton Hall Home Farm. A footpath then goes past Leighton Hall, up the hill and across to Peter Lane above Yealand Conyers. I soon left Peter Lane for a path that goes across the hillside and then over to Coach Road. A walk down Coach Road and I reached the bridleway of Occupation Road. It climbs steeply through Strickland Wood. When it levelled out a sign on the left for Warton Crag Nature Reserve was the cue to head for the summit of Warton Crag. After taking in the view and a bit of aimless wandering I managed to find my way down to Crag Lane, which I followed down to Crag Foot. I then took the Lancashire Coastal Way across to Heald Brow and the bridleway past Brown's Houses and Jenny Brown's Point to Jack Scout. A walk into Silverdale and across the NT land of "The Lots" and I arrived at The Cove. I then had a road walk through Elmslack and along Park Road to get back to the car park.

The NT Eaves Wood car park. My start point for todays walk.
After a short road walk a careful crossing of the railway line from Carnforth that crosses the Kent Viaduct
A path that is typical of the area. Birch woodland, limestone poking out of the ground and if it wasn't winter, rich undergrowth. I then had to dodge the golf balls and cross Silverdale golf course to reach Leighton Moss.
Making my way along the causeway through Leighton Moss...
Looking back along the causeway through Leighton Moss
On the bridleway to Leighton Hall Home Farm
It's a lovely morning as I look across to Arnside Knott
Leighton Hall. At this time of year it isn't open to the public.
A grand spot for lunch. There are a few benches at the top of the hill above Leighton Hall, it felt like spring had arrived as I sat in the sun.
The roofs of the village of Yealand Conyers
There are a number of lines of low limestone scars near the path across the fields to the Coach Road
Peter Lane lime kiln
Heading up the bridleway of the Occupation Road to Warton Crag
The rather redundant trig point and beacon replica on the summit of Warton Crag
The view is severely restricted from the summit so I dropped down the hillside a little to see if I could find a better spot. Looking east towards Warton and Pine Lake.
and up the coast to Jenny Brown's Point and Arnside Knott
A lovely afternoon as I head down Crag Lane to Crag Foot
Signs that spring is on its way at last
On the Lancashire Coastal Way to Jenny Brown's Point
Looking back to Warton Crag
The tall chimney is all that remains of the copper smelting works at Brown's Houses..
and the embankment that marked the end of the quayside here
A roomy seat to enjoy the view on Jack Scout
The tide is out around Morecambe Bay..
On the path across "The Lots" in Silverdale
A nice view of the coast from The Lots
A final photo from The Cove. I've got a road walk back to the car park.
