16th August 2013 - Darwen Moor

Walk Details

Distance walked: 5.1 miles

Total ascent: 922 ft

OS map used: 287 - West Pennine Moors

Time taken: 2 hrs

Route description: Crowfield Road car park-Hollinshead Hall-Darwen Moor-Jubilee Tower-Darwen Moor-Hollinshead Hall-Crowfield Road car park

A short walk onto Darwen Moor to enjoy some fine evening weather and hopefully see the sunset. I thought that I had missed out as it clouded over but my patience was rewarded.

The car park at Slipper Lowe is locked up at 1730 so I had to start further away than I would have liked. If I'd brought a map with me I would have seen the shorter route from Tockholes.

I've reached the spot where I'm going to watch the sunset from. The first thing I took a shot of though was this hot air balloon as it was landing.

It's looking promising

Definitely worth the wait. That's Blackpool Tower that's backlit as the sun drops into the gap in the clouds.

One last shot. I'd better get moving, I still have to walk back to where I'm parked.
