17th June 2012 - Rye Loaf Hill & Malham Cove

Walk Details

Distance walked: 13.1 miles

Total ascent: 2454 ft

OS map used: OL2 - Yorkshire Dales, Southern & Western areas

Time taken: 7.5 hrs

Route description: Malham-Long Lane-Burns Barn-Field Barns-Butterlands Barn-Pikedaw Hill-Nappa Cross-Kirkby Fell-Rye Loaf Hill-Stockdale-Warrendale Knotts-Victoria Cave-Jubilee Cave-Gorbeck-Langscar-Langscar Gate-Ing Scar-Malham Cove-Malham

A long walk from Malham. From the national park car park in Malham I left the village by the track of Long Lane before leaving this to head upto the top of Pikedaw Hill. I then made my way across to Kirkby Fell with a brief detour to see Nappa Cross. It was then a pathless walk across to Rye Loaf Hill from where I then headed down to join the bridleway into Stockdale and then the path below Attermire Scar to Warrendale Knotts. I then paid a visit to Victoria Cave and Jubilee Cave before heading back to Malham by the bridleway across the moors to Langscar Gate and Malham Cove.
