17th March 2013 - Boulsworth Hill
Walk Details
Distance walked: 7.7 miles
Total ascent: 1532 ft
OS map used: OL21 - South Pennines
Time taken: 4 hrs
Route description: Wycoller-Bronte Way-Dean House Farm-Bronte Way-Pendle Way-Boulsworth Hill-Pendle Way-Bronte Way-Dean House Farm-Bronte Way-Wycoller
Things didn't look at all promising after overnight snow had left a very grey morning with low cloud. However as midday approached the cloud lifted off the hills and it showed signs of brightening up. Boots and rucksack were put in the car and the short drive to Wycoller was done for a walk up Boulsworth Hill.
I started this walk from the car park outside the hamlet of Wycoller. After walking through the hamlet I basically followed either the Bronte Way or Pendle Way (they follow the same route for the most part on this walk) to make the ascent of Boulsworth Hill and back again.

No snow in evidence as I leave the car park outside Wycoller
The packhorse bridge in Wycoller
and the clam bridge with a ford over Wycoller Beck
The valley of Wycoller Beck from the track up to Dean House Farm
and again from the Pendle Way
It was a good job that I was looking where I was putting my feet or this Common frog would have been slightly less common
Up into the snow at Little Chair Stones with my first view across to Pendle Hill
The trig point and summit ahead
Lad Law, the summit of Boulsworth Hill
Dove Stones and Widdop Moor
There seems to be some snow in the distance as I look towards the hills of the Yorkshire Dales
Snow covered Buckden Pike and Great Whernside above Wharfedale
Stanbury Moor and Wadsworth Moor
No snow on the neighbouring Combe Hill and Little Wolf Stones
The sun reflecting off the snow on the West Pennine Moors
The Forest of Trawden below
Zooming in to the left of the trig point and I can make out Penyghent and Fountains Fell
A snow covered Pendle Hill from Lad Law
Passing the Abbot Stone as I head down
A great view ahead towards Trawden
On the Pendle Way
Over the bridge and there's just a short walk back down to Wycoller
