18th December 2016 - Holcombe Moor

Walk Details

Distance walked: 5.5 miles

Total ascent: 869 ft

OS map used: 287 - West Pennine Moors (I didn't need it)

Time taken: 3 hrs

Route description: Holcombe-Peel Tower-Harcles Hill-Bull Hill-Harcles Hill-southern end of Holcombe Moor-Holcombe

After finishing the last of my Christmas shopping this morning I needed the open spaces and fresh air of my local moor. It felt good to spend a few hours up there.

From the Peel Tower car park in Holcombe I followed the trail up to Peel Tower. After wandering across to the western side of the moor I made my way north up Holcombe Moor over Harcles Hill to the trig point on Bull Hill. I then returned south back over Harcles Hill to the western side of the moor and after passing Peel Tower I stopped at the southern end of the moor to see the sunset before heading back down to Holcombe.

I've made it back to the southern end of Holcombe Moor and I'm going to wait and see if the sunset amounts to anything

Zooming in to the left of Winter Hill and I could make out some hills in the far distance which I think are the Clwydian Range in north Wales
