Poor weather last weekend meant that I didn't go anywhere for a walk, and I almost missed out this weekend as well. It's been a long time since the weather has been bad enough to make me miss out two weekends in a row. Two named storms, Eunice and Franklin, one after another doesn't help. If the rain that was falling this morning hadn't turned to snow that would have happened. Snow has been in short supply this winter, and I couldn't pass up on the opportunity on having a walk in it, even if that meant doing so while it was still falling. It was forecast to stop and clear up, but whether that would mean that the cloud broke up and the visibility improve was anybody's guess. I set off from home at midday and walked up onto the moors to the east. The snow was quite heavy at times and there was a good covering building up so that it was a few inches deep by the time it stopped, which it did at about 1400. It then brightened up, and my decision to head out was vindicated. The arrival of Storm Franklin overnight soon washed all the snow away.
From where I live in Foulridge I crossed the A56, walked up to Skipton Old Road, and then up Noyna Road to its top. I then turned left and walked up Cob Lane to its top and turned right onto the track to Great Edge Farm, which I walked up until it turned right for Great Edge Farm, where I went straight on, taking the footpath along the edge of Kelbrook Wood and across fields to Harwes Farm. From Harwes Farm I took the footpath to Piked Edge, then returned to Harwes Farm, from where I took the footpath southwest onto Great Edge. I then followed the path west down Great Edge and across Moss Houses Beck and up to Cob Lane. A path from Cob Lane at Noyna End Farm took me up onto Noyna Hill, and the path west across its top and down to Skipton Old Road was followed. A short walk back to my home in Foulridge was left.

Heading up Noyna Road
The surrounding countryside has disappeared beneath the falling snow
Heading north along Cob Lane
The neighbouring fields have got a good covering
Looking back to Noyna Hill as I take the lane to Great Edge Farm
Heading east along the track to Great Edge Farm
Great Edge is hard to make out through the falling snow
Looking back along the track to Great Edge Farm
While on the footpath from Great Edge Farm to Harwes Farm I stop beneath some trees to take shelter. Although the breeze is quite light, I'm walking into it, and it's now snowing heavily. I'll wait for it to ease off. It gives me a chance to take a few photos of the snow covered walls and trees.....
At Harwes Farm. The snow has eased off, and it's trying to brighten up.
Looking back from the footpath to Black Lane Ends to Harwes Farm, and I can just about make it out through the fog
At Black Lane Ends. Time to head back.
The visibility improves a bit on the way to Harwes Farm..
Kelbrook Wood on the side of a fog topped Kelbrook Moor
Snow covered Bleara Moor and Burnt Hill
Back at Harwes Farm. I wish this fog would clear. It's so close to doing so, I can see a bit of blue sky through it.
Heading for Great Edge from Harwes Farm
A bleak winter scene
On Great Edge and it looks like the fog is clearing...
The snow covered moor of Great Edge
Great Edge Farm with Kelbrook Moor behind
There's still some fog blowing across the moor from the north, but it's continuing to break up and clear..
Kelbrook Moor and Great Edge Farm
Pendle Hill appears in the distance as the weather continues to improve
Great views of the surrounding moors. The snow and sunshine really brings out the contours of the hills..
I can make out Ingleborough and the moors above Settle and Malham in the Yorkshire Dales in the distance on the right
Looking south towards the Forest of Trawden
Pendle Hill in the distance and Noyna Hill on the right, as I follow the path to Noyna End Farm on Cob Lane
Looking towards a cloud covered Boulsworth Hill with Noyna End Farm below..
..and towards the snow covered roofs of Colne
On the top of Noyna Hill
Kelbrook Moor to the northeast
The view north to the Yorkshire Dales comes and goes because of the patches of fog that keep crossing the top of the moor..
For a few minutes I have no view at all..
..and then the fog clears to give me a view north across snow covered countryside to the Yorkshire Dales in the distance..
Onto access land on Noyna Hill. The bare trees, snow, mist and fog make for some atmospheric photos...
This is the spot that I usually end up at for taking in the view of Pendle Hill. I can't see very far today but that doesn't seem to matter....
Foulridge Upper and Lower Reservoirs from the southern edge of access land
The low level mist and fog is clearing, but at the expense of it clouding over. As the sun puts in a brief appearance I get a fantastic view of snow covered moors to the west, including a glimpse of Pendle Hill...
Heading back down to Foulridge and home
