24th August 2014 - Buckden Pike
Walk Details
Distance walked: 10.5 miles
Total ascent: 2044 ft
OS map used: OL30 - Yorkshire Dales, Northern & Central areas
Time taken: 6.5 hrs
Route description: Buckden-Dales Way-Hubberholme-Scar House-Cray-Buckden Pike-Walden Road-Starbotton-Dales Way-Buckden Pike
Another fine day and I decided to have a walk in Wharfedale. It's been six months since my last visit to the valley and April last year for Buckden Pike. I extended the walk to include a bit of path that I've wanted to try for a while, the traverse from Scar House to Cray. Great views down the valley from it. Summer is hanging on though there was a chill in the air up on Buckden Pike.
From Buckden I crossed the bridge over the Wharfe and followed the Dales Way to Hubberholme. I then crossed the bridge to the church of St. Michael's and All Angels to take the path up to Scar House and then onto the traverse to Cray. I crossed the road and Cray Gill and then made my way up to the summit of Buckden Pike. To head back I walked down the summit ridge to the war memorial and then the bridleway of Walden Road to Starbotton. The Dales Way took me back to Buckden.

On the summit of Buckden Pike. It's definitely a bit cooler and breezier up here. Penyghent, Ingleborough and Whernside in view to the west.

A very distant Pendle Hill to the southwest along with Fountains Fell
There's a better view to be had if you walk away from the summit towards Langstrothdale
Heading south on Buckden Pike's summit ridge. The path has been flagged in places.
The war memorial at the end of the ridge
Great Whernside. I'm not heading that way though.
