25th August 2013 - Great Harlow & Bowland Knotts

Walk Details

Distance walked: 7.4 miles

Total ascent: 1213 ft

OS map used: OL41 - Forest of Bowland & Ribblesdale

Time taken: 5 hrs

Route description: Cross of Greet Bridge-Catlow Farm-Bowland Knotts-Cold Stone-Great Harlow-Cross of Greet-Cross of Greet Bridge

I started todays walk from a layby at the Cross of Greet Bridge where there's enough room to park a few cars. A public footpath leaves here for Catlow Farm though it isn't easy to follow at times. From Catlow Farm I followed a path then track uphill that reaches the road up from Stocks Reservoir near Bowland Knotts. After taking in the views from Bowland Knotts I made for Great Harlow. My route back was to follow the fenceline down to the road and the Cross of Greet and a road walk down to the Cross of Greet Bridge.

I've arrived on Bowland Knotts and I'm going to take in the view from the rocky outcrops to the east of the road while I have my lunch. Looking towards Gisburn Forest and Whelpstone Crag.

On the other side of the road are more outcrops and the highest, currently in shadow is adorned by a trig point

It's a bit too hazy for really good long distance views today but I can make out Middleton Fell, Gragareth, Whernside and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales
