25th November 2017 - Pendle Hill

Walk Details

Distance walked: 5.6 miles

Total ascent: 1281 ft

OS map used: OL21 - South Pennines

Time taken: 3 hrs

Route description: Barely-Pendle Way-Pendle Hill-Downham Moor-Worston Moor-Downham Moor-Pendle Way-Barley

A long way from being my favourite walk up Pendle Hill this year. I set off from Barley in hope that the sunshine would last but it didn't. It soon clouded over and with a few snow showers blown through on the strong and cold wind up there it wasn't very pleasant at times. I did enjoy my first walk in snow of the season though.

From the car park in Barley I followed the trail of the Pendle Way to the summit of Pendle Hill. I then crossed the stile onto Downham Moor and followed the path across it to Worston Moor and the circular shelter there, where I had my lunch. I returned to Barley by the same route.

The shower has passed but those skies look grey and leaden. Time I was heading back.
