28th December 2020 - Great Edge and Noyna Hill
Walk Details
Distance walked: 5.7 miles
Total ascent: 1076 ft
OS map used: OL21 - South Pennines
Time taken: 4 hrs
Route description: Foulridge-Skipton Old Road-Kelbrook-Cob Lane-Noyna End Farm-Great Edge-Noyna End Farm-Noyna Hill-Skipton Old Road-Foulridge
The showers that were falling yesterday afternoon turned to snow and carried on into the evening. So, after waking up and finding a cover of snow this morning I decided to head out after lunchtime for a walk up onto the moors to the east of home. It was forecast to brighten up, and it did, so that I enjoyed a couple of hours of taking in the views of snow covered moors bathed in winter sunshine. The weather is going to stay cold until at least the new year, more snowy walks to look forward to then.
From where I live in Foulridge I walked up to and across the A56, then north along Skipton Old Road to Kelbrook. I then walked up Cob Lane to its top and to Noyna End Farm, where I took a footpath on the left down to and across Moss Houses Beck and up onto Great Edge. I then returned to Noyna End Farm and walked north up Cob Lane and took a footpath on the left up onto Noyna Hill. After taking in the view from access land on Noyna Hill I picked up the footpath from Noyna Hill down to Skipton Old Road for a return to Foulridge and home.

Snow covered fields around Foulridge from Skipton Old Road
and I can make out snow covered hills in the Yorkshire Dales in the distance
From Kelbrook I start walking up Cob Lane
A snow covered landscape gradually comes into view
A snow covered Kelbrook Moor
The snow's getting deeper as I gain height
Looking back down Cob Lane
Noyna Hill ahead as I reach the top of Cob Lane
Kelbrook Moor from Cob Lane..
The top of a bridleway up from Skipton Old Road. I wouldn't like to have to wade through that lot.
Great Edge on the other side of Moss Houses Beck
A distant Pendle Hill, White Moor and Noyna Hill as I head up onto Great Edge. With the skies clearing and the sun coming out the views just get better and better..
Great Edge Farm and Kelbrook Moor
Deep snow on Great Edge. The ground isn't frozen beneath it so I have to watch where I step.
Pendle Hill and White Moor from Great Edge..
The Forest of Trawden and a cloud topped Boulsworth Hill
Noyna Hill, White Moor and the western end of Kelbrook Moor
Pendle Hill, Noyna Hill and White Moor as I head back down Great Edge to Cob Lane
Back on Cob Lane. I wouldn't like to have to try and drive along these narrow country lanes when they're covered in snow.
Kelbrook Moor as..
..I head up onto Noyna Hill
Pendle Hill in the distance from the top of Noyna Hill..
Kelbrook Moor and Great Edge
Foulridge Lower Reservoir, Pendle Hill, and the countryside of The Forest of Pendle from access land on Noyna Hill. As some cloud comes across a lovely light develops....
Foulridge Upper Reservoir, Colne and Foulridge Lower Reservoir
Increasing cloud for another couple of photos of the view towards Pendle Hill..
To the south, cloud still covers the top of Boulsworth Hill
The moon rises over Noyna Hill
Heading back home to Foulridge
For a final shot, zooming in on Pendle Hill. I can see where I live in the bottom left hand corner.
