29th November 2008 - A Newlands Horseshoe
Walk Details
Distance walked: 8.7 miles
Total ascent: 3268 ft
OS map used: OL4 - The English Lakes, North-western area
Time taken: 6.5 hrs
Route description: Chapel Bridge-Little Town-Hause Gate-Cat Bells-Hause Gate-Maiden Moor-High Spy-Dalehead Tarn-Dale Head-Hindscarth-Scope End-Low Snab-Chapel Bridge
A great walk in the northwestern fells with some snow on the tops.
From the car park at Chapel Bridge I walked up the road to Little Town from where I took the path up to Hause Gate. I paid a visit to Cat Bells before retracing my steps to head up Maiden Moor. I then walked along the ridge to High Spy with a detour to the cairn on Blea Crag on the way. From High Spy I then visited Dalehead Tarn before I tackled the ascent of Dale Head. After Dale Head I then walked across to the summit of Hindscarth before I descended the ridge of Scope End back to the car park at Chapel Bridge.
