2nd January 2012 - Hog Lowe Pike

Walk Details

Distance walked: 2.3 miles

Total ascent: 526 ft

OS Map used: 287 - West Pennine Moors

Time taken: 2 hrs

Route description: Calf Hey Reservoir-Hog Lowe Pike-Calf Hey Reservoir

Just a quick walk to blow the cobwebs away. After parking in the car park at Calf Hey Reservoir I made my way up to the summit of Hog Lowe Pike in the West Pennine Moors before returning by the same route. It was cold and windy on the summit but I spent about 30 minutes there taking some pictures and having a flask of tea in the shelter of a wall. Something that was different from when I was here last September is that United Utilities have started felling some of the conifers that surround the reservoir with the aim to replace them with native broad-leaved woodland.
