The best weather today was to be found in the Peak District so I decided to do this walk that took me to one of the many limestone valleys of the White Peak, Wolfscote Dale. All my walks in this area over the past year have been firsts and I really enjoy the limestone scenery on show.
From Hartington I made my way out of the village and up Reynards Lane. A bridleway on the right was a short-cut past Staden Barn and back to Reynards Lane and the bridleway down to Frank i' th' Rocks Bridge. I then had an enjoyable walk down Wolfscote Dale to Shining Tor. A concessionary path kept me off the road until I reached the path across the hillside to Shining Tor. I then followed this on above Mill Dale and down to Viators Bridge and the hamlet of Milldale. From Milldale I followed a path uphill across fields to Millway Lane and through the village of Alstonefield. After a walk up the road to Hulme End I took a path across to and under Narrowdale Hill to Narrowdale Farm. A bridleway was then followed back to Frank i' th' Rocks Bridge for the walk up Beresford Dale and back to Hartington.

After enjoying a brew in the Rook Cafe I've walked through the village of Hartington..
..and then up Reynards Lane
Views across the upper valley of the Dove towards Narrowdale Hill, Wetton Hill and Ecton Hill
and up the valley towards Sheen Hill
A typical White Peak scene of limestone walls and barns
Heading down the bridleway to Wolfscote Dale
At Frank i' th' Rocks, the entrance to Wolfscote Dale
An enjoyable walk down Wolfscote Dale now awaits
Drabber Tor
Biggin Dale joins Wolfscote Dale from the right. A busy spot.
Peaseland Rocks
The path briefly goes through woodland
Into the open again at Coldeaton Bridge
Looking back up the valley
My walk by the river ends as Shining Tor appears ahead
Up onto the hillside and heading for the top of Shining Tor
The valley below comes into view
Looking down Mill Dale from the top of Shining Tor..
..and up Wolfscote Dale to Iron Tors
The valley of Mill Dale as I follow the hillside path to the hamlet of the same name
In Milldale and it's far busier than this picture would suggest. Lots of people were sitting by the banks of the Dove at Viators Bridge. My route took me up the lane to the right past Polly's Cottage.
Looking back up Mill Dale from the path to Alstonefield
A beautiful summers afternoon in the White Peak
The path will bring me out onto Millway Lane and into Alstonefield
Looking back to Alstonefield
On the path around the side of Narrowdale Hill
Just above Narrowdale Farm with the hills of the upper Dove valley in the distance
A mass of harebells on a limestone wall and the derelict buildings of Narrowdale Farm below Narrowdale Hill
On the bridleway that heads from Narrowdale Farm to Frank i' th' Rocks Bridge
Frank i' th' Rocks ahead and I'm back at the start of Wolfscote Dale
Looking back at the entrance to Wolfscote Dale
By the Dove in Beresford Dale
Pike Pool. Nothing to do with fish but named after the spire of rock. I almost missed it. A walk back across fields to Hartington to finish.
