I hadn't planned on heading out for a walk today but the sight of snow and sunshine proved to be irresistible, and it's back to work tomorrow, so after lunchtime I decided to set off from home for Weets Hill. To make the most of the time available I made my way across to Blacko before making my way north to Weets Hill. It was a fantastic afternoon for a walk with a mix of cloud and sunshine, and great views across a snow covered landscape. I certainly made a good decision.
From where I live in Foulridge I walked west along the B6251 and then Reedymoor Lane towards Foulridge Lower Reservoir. Below Foulridge Lower Reservoir I took the bridleway to Slipper Hill, then crossed the lane and took the bridleway opposite to join the towpath of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to Wanless Bridge. I left the canal towpath here, crossed Wanless Bridge, and followed a footpath up fields to reach Barnoldswick Road opposite The Cross Gaits Inn. I then crossed the road and took the footpath opposite to Great Stonedge Farm, turned right, briefly followed a lane north, took a path straight on at a cottage, and then turned right to follow a footpath along the edge of a field to Beverley Road. After crossing Beverley Road I took the footpath opposite to and around Burnt House Farm and then took a footpath on the left up to Blacko Hill Side Farm and then up onto Blacko Hill. I then took a footpath across Blacko Hill to Admergill Pasture Cottage before following a footpath up to Gisburn Old Road, which I then walked up to its top at Weets House Farm for a visit to the top of Weets Hill. After taking in the view I returned to Weets House Farm at the top of Gisburn Old Road, then walked all the way down Gisburn Old Road, turned left onto Standing Stone Lane, then took the footpath on the right through Whitemoor Riding Centre down to Holly Bush Farm, then down a lane past Sand Hall towards Reedymoor Lane. I left this lane for a path on the left by the old railway line, which I followed east until I reached a footpath on the right which took me across a couple of fields to Reedymoor Lane. After walking north along Reedymoor Lane I turned right onto the B6251 and followed this back to Foulridge and home.
