7th April 2014 - Eel Tarn from Boot

Walk Details

Distance walked: 2.3 miles

Total ascent: 655 ft

OS map used: OL6 - The English Lakes, Southwestern area

Time taken: 1 hr

Route description: Boot-Eel Tarn-Boot

I've got a week off work so I decided to have a short holiday in the Lakes and visit Eskdale, which I've not been to for a few years now. I've checked into the Boot Inn for a three night stay and the rain of earlier in the day has cleared. I take advantage of this and quickly put my boots on and make the short walk up to Eel Tarn. It was a great way to start my holiday and I certainly had a good appetite for the excellent fish and chips served up for my evening meal.

From Boot I took the lane uphill behind the hamlet. A fingerpost then pointed the way to Eel Tarn. My route back was along a path above the intake wall that took me back to the fingerpost.

As I walk up the road behind Boot there's an unexpected bonus of seeing these cascades on Whillan Beck

Ruin of peat hut. There are a few of these at the top of the hillsides on both sides of the valley. I'll see another tomorrow morning.

Boot beckons. That little ramble has given me a bit of an appetite.
