After almost two weeks with a cover of snow on the ground the weather is about to change, with milder conditions and rain set to arrive tomorrow the snow will quickly disappear. Today's walk from home took me onto the moors to the east of where I live, following a route that I first did in May last year when the first lockdown restrictions were starting to be eased. I set off from home with sunny skies after what had been a bitterly cold night. Unfortunately the sunshine didn't last long and the skies soon became filled with low cloud. I then had second thoughts about the route I was going to follow but they didn't last long, I knew the way well enough and I was prepared for the dull and cold weather. The rest of the day was then mostly dull and grey, and at times the visibility was pretty poor with next to no view to speak of. However, the cloud did break up a little in the middle of the afternoon and the glimpses of sun shining across a snow covered landscape made the hours of dullness worthwhile.
From where I live in Foulridge I made my way up to Skipton Old Road and then walked up Noyna Road to its top, turned right and walked down Cob Lane to the ford over Moss Houses Beck. I then took the footpath across to Cockhill Lane, which I walked along to its junction with Castle Road where I turned left and walked up to Skipton Old Road. Here I turned right and after a short walk turned left onto Hill Lane. I then walked along Hill Lane past The Alma Inn and then down Emmott Lane towards Laneshaw Bridge. I soon reached the public footpath on the left down the driveway to Flass Farm that took me down to a footbridge over Sykes Beck and then up to the footbridge over High Laith Beck, where I picked up the Pendle Way. I followed the Pendle Way uphill past Monkroyd Boarding Kennels and towards Knarrs Farm, and then joined the Pennine Bridleway for the final "climb" to the summit of Knarrs Hill. Leaving Knarrs Hill I kept on the Pennine Bridleway until I reached Warley Wise Lane. I then walked west along Warley Wise Lane to Black Lane Ends and Black Lane Ends Tavern. I took the public footpath through the pub car park and up onto the hill of Piked Edge and then across fields to Harwes Farm. Here I went through a gate onto access land and made my way up to the trig point on Kelbrook Moor before returning to Harwes Farm, where I took the footpath southwest onto Great Edge. I then followed the path west down Great Edge and across Moss Houses Beck and up to Cob Lane. I then walked to the top of Cob Lane and took a footpath on the left up onto Noyna Hill, and the path west across its top and down to Skipton Old Road was followed. A short walk back to my home in Foulridge was left.
